Searching


Searching for the reason
the justification for life
ours are the wanderings
of a restless mind

Longing to be loved
for that other we hope
will one day be there
but in truth may not

Grasping at pathways
reasons to continue on
striving to do our best
not knowing what to pursue

Hoping for acceptance
from others we fear
trusting so dangerously
vulnerable and lonely

Distrusting what we gain
in the spirit offered
simple love is questioned
cautiously backing away

Detesting our condition
needy but rejecting
help cannot be trusted
pity is the motive
